Scientific Name: Ardea herodias

Tall wading bird with long legs and slow, deliberate movements.

The Great Blue Heron is the largest and most widespread heron in North America. Often seen standing motionless in shallow water, it patiently waits to spear fish with its long, sharp bill. Its graceful flight and impressive wingspan make it one of the most striking coastal birds.

How to Identify a Great Blue Heron
