The Laughing Gull is a familiar sight along beaches and coastal towns of the Atlantic and Gulf coasts. Named for its loud, laughing call, this medium-sized gull often gathers in flocks near shorelines, fishing piers, and harbors. During breeding season, adults display a striking black head and bright red bill.
How to Identify a Laughing Gull
Look for a medium-sized gull with a dark hood during summer, gray wings, and a red bill. In winter the head turns mostly white with a small dark ear spot.
