ISLE AU HAUT (ROBINSON POINT) LIGHT - Maine

Location: Robinson Point on Isle Au Haut
Currently Operational: Yes
Height: 48 feet
Year Established: 1907

Perched on Robinson Point on Isle au Haut, this charming lighthouse was built in 1907 and has the distinction of being the last traditional lighthouse constructed in Maine. Its tower - a gray granite base with a white, cylindrical brick upper section - rises about 40 feet, and stands just offshore. It is connected by a raised walkway to the classic Victorian keeper’s house.

The station originally included an oil house, boathouse, and storage shed, and was designed to help New England’s fishing fleets find shelter in rough weather. It was automated in 1934. The Coast Guard transferred the tower to the town of Isle au Haut in 1998. And in 1999 a complete restoration of the tower was completed.

The keeper’s house has been run as a bed and breakfast, but as of 2019, it is a vacation rental. Today, the light remains an active aid to navigation, flashing red every few seconds with a white sector marking the safe channel; the original fourth-order Fresnel lens is on display at the Maine Lighthouse Museum in Rockland.
